Symposium UNRWA: 60 years working with Palestinian refugees.

Raquel Martí, director of the Spanish Committee of UNRWA

Born in Madrid in November 1966. Licenced in Geography and History at the University Complutense of Madrid and Doctor in History from the UNED, an expert in project management and evaluation of International Cooperation projects. From 1993 to 1998 he lived in various African countries while doing research work as managing projects of development cooperation. She has worked as a consultant for Price Waterhouse and since 2001 has worked in different NGO projects as Head of Emergency and Humanitarian Aid for Palestine refugees and Project Manager in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Began her work as a journalist in 1971. In 1981 she was covering for the news paper Mundo Obrero the Israel's invasion of Lebanon, also worked for the magazine and newspaper Interviú and The Independent covering the Iran-Iraq war in Tehran. She was the only woman who covered the war as a correspondent, with the exception of a Lebanese photographer. During 15 years (since 1989) was sent in the Middle East for Telemadrid covering the Gulf War and the Balkan conflict. Telemadrid on this occasion was the first Spanish television in the conflict. She has also been sent elsewhere especially in conflict. She has published, with editorial Trojan horse, the book Palestine: The thread of memory and Olivo Roto: Scenes from the occupation. She is currently a member of the Governing Council of RTVE appointed by  IU-ICV. She has a good knowledge of the Arabic world and its main protagonists.
