The Yugoslavian conflict. “The Magazine”
 |
“The magazine” is a reflection on the situation in the post-war Balkans in the nineties, and depicts one of the toughest times in the turbulent recent history of this area. It is about getting under the flesh and into the daily routine of a number of characters who tell us their problems in an extremely harsh way, get undressed in front of us and show us their wounds. These psychological, affective, emotional… wounds which are never talked about when we recall upon the consequences of wars. But the play is not about a sociological analisis on violence in this part of the world, nor is it about a statistical checklist on murders, suicides, rapes…., it is not either about a mystical account on the essence of conflicts or on the “balkanization of the Balkans”. It is indeed about giving voice to the actual protagonists of these analisis, of those statistics, through the different though intertwined stories of the characters of the play who, in an urban, street-like, popular and tragicomic tone, bring us closer to their realities, their conflicts and their ways of solving them. Those who at a time are submitted through violence will presently do the same to somebody else, in a succession of facts during which power is seen as transitory and will belong to those who use their strength most brutally.
Bitter, black, agonizing sense of humour about a post war just like any other in a country just like any other.
The young actors of this play are Philology students of Skopje University and members of an AECID program.
